Sam & Mason | Take A Seat
One foot in goofy humour, the other in creative wisdom, Sam WS and Mason Moon's Take A Seat conversation is the kind of exchange that reminds you of the level of drive you need to have in order to maintain creativity in your life.
Sam and Mason each have their own respective approach to making music. For Sam, it’s about loving your own art first before anyone else does. He also talks about the importance of writing with intention and not just chasing sounds that trend - as we've seen so much of before.
Mason takes a slightly different creative route. He builds from the ground up, starting with textures before adding drums or melodies. For him, it’s about crafting a world and letting the soundscape set the tone before the song even takes shape. Two different methods but the same commitment to originality and quality.
The conversation begins to shift into the visual world. They discuss their favourite movies and then take a closer look at what makes the films unique before crossing into Music Video territory. They agree that they should both collaborate on a single this year after both expressing their fascination with strange, almost psychedelic-esque shots.
The conversation shifts to social media and how it’s changing the way creatives work. The pressure to keep up with what's hot can water down the genuinity of the art. Mason talks about the road he's walking and his fears on the negative side of mass attention.
“You're bettering yourself each song. Your quality is getting better, your promotion is getting better and there's more eyes on you. Eventually one of the songs is going to be big - it might not be viral, but it's going to be big. You're going to be talked about, and I always wonder - will I be prepared for that?”
In this episode Sam and Mason remind us that creativity also lies in conversation and not purely in the final product.
