If you’ve spent any time in Melbourne’s Techno scene chances are you’ve either seen Jacques (DJ name Cheekz) behind the decks or watched him from your screen. The DJ/Photographer exudes a calm, inviting presence with a deep love for music, travel, and the kind of special moments you can’t quite put into words.

In our latest Club Talk interview Jacques opens up about everything from pushing past self-doubt to losing himself under a Croatian sunset. He describe those moments as his favourites.

Later in the interview he drops a few gems of wisdom for young creatives trying to break into the scene.

“Network the hell out of wherever you want to go. I don't like to be annoyed, but if someone just says 'give me your Instagram' I'll chuck them a message when I do have the time. If you're not prepared to sacrifice you're not prepared for the scene. That's pretty cut-throat, but I have DJed and Photographed so many free gigs to get myself into a better position.”

Jacques also shows love to fellow artists Jesse Dori, DJ Nelson, Love (comma) Jess and Akeylah, who he says deserves everything she has coming to her in tenfold.

Outside of music, his passion for cars is inked on his skin. He’s got tattoos of a Check Engine Light, a Coilover and a Spark plug. Jacques has had fifteen cars since turning eighteen - so you know he takes it seriously.

He also touches on the responsibility of Australian promoters to support local acts more intensely, stressing the importance of building a stronger and more unified scene.
