A LOVE STORY DIPPED IN GOLD
'Boogeyman' is the latest installment in JuLeo's rich and extensive discography, and it's by far his most visually and sonically cohesive project to date. There's alot to unpack here, we'll touch on the audio in a moment but let's start with the video first.
The opening sequence sets the stage for the rest of the music video. A golden autumn leaf falling across the screen. A massive old money-style manor with high gates and trees that loom over the property. Lounging areas inside the estate filled with beautiful women and JuLeo's closest circle of friends. Each shot is brilliantly coordinated and nothing feels like 'filler' material. The ambience alone tells a story.
The posthumous promo rollout has been intense, to say the least. JuLeo opted to go HEAVY on the posts, dropping new reels, BTS feed posts and brand tie-ins daily as the song gained traction among fans. The buzz is real, and there's no intention of letting up.
Then comes the song itself. A beautiful ethnic-style guitar fills out the melody while soft flute, piano and violin notes whisper in the harmonies. JuLeo's vocal energy starts lower and more gentle, but as the drums begin to take over and the intensity increases he snaps.
The lyricism is grounded in a sensual, masculine force that's fairly consistent in JuLeo's character. What can I say, he loves talking about women (who doesn't). He has a clear grip on where to position himself in the instrumental and it's just flawless.
'Boogeyman' is a fully-realised body of work that clearly took months of time, effort and planning to accomplish. We believe this calibre of effort cannot and will not go unnoticed - Melbourne is beginning to understand how serious artists like JuLeo are taking their craft and it's been a very, very long time coming.
I wouldn't be surprised to see more releases start rolling in that aim to achieve this degree of quality. World building is so important for musicians and cinematic music videos are the pinnacle of the medium. I don't need to say anything more, watch this music video for yourself and it'll all make sense.
